The National Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote a pastoral letter in 1985 entitled, "Empowered by the Spirit: Campus Ministry Faces the Future."  The bishops state their vision of Campus Ministry as: "Campus Ministry gathers the Catholics on Campus for prayer, worship, and learning in order that they might bring the light of the Gospel to illumine the concerns and hopes of the academic community."  In this spirit, the goals of Campus Ministry are:

  • to form a faith community on campus
  • to assist in the formation of the Catholic conscience of our students,
    faculty, staff and administration
  • to aid in making social justice an integral part of the school's mission
  • to help form future leaders for Church and society
  • to ensure the Catholic identity of the school
The Campus Ministry department works to achieve these goals utilizing the following methods:

  • student and faculty Opportunities for Spiritual Growth
  • school liturgies: Eucharistic and Word
  • celebration of the Sacrament of Reconcilation (Advent, Lent and First Friday)
  • sacramental preparation
  • collections for charity
  • Community Service Program
  • pastoral counseling and spiritual direction
  • student-centered support groups
  • peer ministry (transfer student orientation)
  • school-parish relationship
Additionally, the Campus Ministry department works collaboratively with our Religion department. Together we play an important role in helping our students experience living and learning, fully integrated in the light of faith. Employing a variety of learning methods, the program's goals are:

  • to empower our adolescents to become disciples of Jesus who witness to their beliefs by living lives of faith, hope and charity.
  • to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person entrusted to our care.
  • to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the faith community.

We are richly blessed to have a chapel on our campus where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved and Mass is celebrated on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 7:15 a.m. On Tuesdays, a Liturgy of the Word service is conducted at 7:15 a.m.  Students, faculty, parents and staff are welcome.  The Bishop Paul F. Tanner Chapel is located in front of the main office building.

Students are encouraged to become involved in the activities of the Campus Ministry program.
