On March 29th, eight members of the class of 2018 competed in the 24th annual Miss Bishop Kenny pageant. The eight contestants entertained students, faculty, family, and friends by sharing their casual and formal wear, prepared speeches, and individual talent performances.
For the eight Junior class contestants, the pageant was a culmination of several months of hard work and dedication. After an initial audition, each contestant attended over 8 weeks of practice to prepare for the pageant, wrote and rehearsed an on stage speech, and practiced her individual talent. In addition to the many practices, the contestants also contributed to the pageant fundraiser, participated in a photo shoot and gave off pre-event off stage formal interviews with the pageant judges. The event pageant judges consist of volunteers from businesses and studios around Jacksonville specifically known for their expertise and experience in the areas of dance, vocals, theater, and modeling.
After all of the hard work and preparations on behalf of the contestants, the girls were joined on stage by several members of the class of 2017. Senior class president Preston Richter and student body president Joe Truss acted as masters of ceremonies, with the help of several of last year's contestants. Seniors Kayla Fudge, Nicole Macomb, and Natalie Alexander also gave special performances throughout the evening.
Behind the scenes, volunteers from student council and the theater department helped the evening run smoothly. Ms. Blake Bachara, faculty pageant coordinator commented, "It truly is a school wide event, and so many students have an opportunity to participate in their own way, to showcase and contribute their own talents."
Finally, the drum roll please! Senior Natalie Alexander, who currently holds the reign as Miss Senior High 2017, shared what the past year as Miss Bishop Kenny meant to her before passing on the title at the end to Monet Waters, our newly crowned Ms. Bishop Kenny 2017.
