Members of Bishop Kenny High School’s first four graduating classes, 1953-1956, gathered for a luncheon at the Athens Café on St. Augustine Road on October 5. J.P. “Pat” Thornton ‘53 is the founder and leader of the group that has been gathering 2-3 times per year for the past 15- 20 years.
Principal Todd Orlando and Director of Advancement Sheila Marovich were invited to attend this month’s luncheon. Mr. Orlando delivered an informal “State of BK” message to the gathering of approximately 35-40 BK graduates. Mr. Orlando reported a robust enrollment of 1,232 students, a strong academic program with 100% of last year’s seniors being accepted to college, advancements in technology, the addition of a sailing program in cooperation with Florida Yacht Club, a good start to the year in Fall athletics, and more. The graduates listened with great interest as news of their cherished alma mater was shared.
Mr. Orlando and Mrs. Marovich agreed that the welcome could not have been warmer and the camaraderie among the group any more genuine. Thanks to Pat and all of the Door Openers who help coordinate these gatherings.
