Bishop Kenny indoor volleyball Coach Suzanne Winkler and star player, Ally Cavanaugh have been named the Florida Dairy Farmers Player and Coach of the Year.  These awards cap off an outstanding season that ended with the Crusaders winning the State Championship by defeating Cardinal Gibbons in four sets and finishing the season with a 21-8 record. 

Cavanaugh ’23, the starting outside hitter for the team, was a key component to the BK offense in the state win.  She had a season high 295 kills with a .336 hitting percentage and 57 blocks.  She is passionate about the sport and stated, “I love playing volleyball because I can forget everything going on around me in the world and just focus all my attention on the game.”  Cavanaugh plays volleyball year around and her dream is to play for a large division 1 program in college.  She is thankful to have Coach Winkler guiding her acknowledging, “When I moved from the middle position mid-season to outside hitter, I was anxious, and Coach Winkler pushed me and made me believe that I could dominate in my new position.  It was important for me to know that she believed in me and together we finished the season as state champions!”

The Crusader volleyball team is led by Coach Suzanne Winkler who was also named 4A Coach of the Year.  Winkler has truly set up a volleyball dynasty at BK and has added beach volleyball to her coaching resume. Winkler has been head coach at BK for 18 years with a winning percentage of .718 and overall record of 394-155. Winkler has led BK to 18 consecutive District Championships, 13 Regional Championships, 13 State Final Four appearances, three State Runner-ups, and Two State Championships.  She has been the District Coach of the Year five times, Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year twice, and twice for the Double-Goal National Finalist Positive Coach Award.  She values her players as individuals, but mandates that they always play as a team and work for the greater good of the program.
