Congratulations to Matthew Phan, the Valedictorian of the Bishop Kenny Class of 2024. Matthew graduates with a grade point average of 4.59, an outstanding accomplishment. Matthew came to Bishop Kenny from Blessed Trinity Catholic School. He achieved first honors Honor Roll every quarter of his high school career and was recognized as a National Merit Commended Student. Matthew took twelve Advanced Placement courses and was named an AP Scholar with Distinction in 2023 as a result of his scores on AP Exams. In addition, he is an AP Capstone Diploma candidate.
He is a member of National Honor Society, English, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, Science, and Spanish Honor Societies, and is the Principal Pianist for the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra. Additionally, he received college scholarships from the Florida Arts for Life, the National Federation of Music Clubs, the Florida Federation of Music Clubs, and the Jacksonville Music Teachers Association.
Matthew earned over 200 community service hours, mostly volunteering to play piano and serving as a lector at Blessed Trinity Sunday Mass. He also volunteers at school-wide Masses and Back to BACH organization, an organization that promotes arts education for underprivileged students.
Matthew applied and was accepted to the University of Florida Honors College, Florida State University Honors College, Jacksonville University Honors College, Stetson University Honors College, and Vanderbilt University. He will attend Vanderbilt University in the fall and plans to major in Piano Performance and Pre-Medicine. Congratulations Matthew!
