December Student of the Month: Jonathan Lumbag

December Student of the Month: Jonathan Lumbag

Congratulations to Senior Jonathan Lumbag who has been named the Bishop Kenny High School December student of the month.  He was selected for service highlighting generosity and compassion.  Jonathan’s goal in life is to help the people he encounters and to use his God given talents to the best of his ability.  He said, “I always contemplated how I could help people as I only have two hands; however, along my journey – especially in those little detours in life – God has shown me and given me opportunities to help others without me realizing it.  I learned that service and compassion do not have to be grand acts, like donating millions of dollars.  It is in my daily life that I have learned to do small things with great love.”

Jonathan has a very rigorous academic schedule and finds the time to be very involved in extra-curricular activities and Campus Ministry.  Jonathan serves as a lector for the 7:10am campus Mass, is an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, and is the deep voice you hear over the intercom for morning and afternoon announcements.  He is President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a member of the Minds, Hearts, and Souls group.  Jonathan is also a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.

Jonathan has been a member of the cross country and track and field teams since his freshman year stating, “I have absolutely no regrets, despite the pain, as I have met many of my closest friends in Cross Country.”  He would like to attend the University of Florida to study sociology or accounting, but he is also discerning the priesthood with hopes of joining the seminary at some point in his life.  Deacon DeLuca reflected on knowing Jonathan, “I am edified that for four years with rare exception, Jonathan has attended daily mass at BK and has a great devotion to Mary and a passion for the unborn.  He will inspire many along his life journey.”
