Honoring a Legacy of Faith: Monsignor Michael Houle '71 Endowment

As Bishop Kenny High School celebrates 75 years of educating young people in the Catholic tradition, the school is honoring a leader whose 26 years of service helped shape the Bishop Kenny community and its commitment to making a Crusader education accessible to all.  On August 19, Bishop Kenny dedicated and formally named its Endowment in honor of Monsignor Michael Houle ’71, recognizing his lasting legacy of faith, service, and opportunity.

Established in 2021, the BKHS Endowment has grown to more than $4.3 million through the generosity of the Bishop Kenny community and the support of the Legacy of Faith Campaign. Most Rev. Erik T. Pohlmeier, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine, joined members of the Bishop Kenny community for the dedication and blessed the newly named endowment wall in the school’s main office.

During his 26 years as President of Bishop Kenny High School, Monsignor Houle made it a priority to ensure that a Bishop Kenny education remained within reach for students and families who could not afford the full cost of tuition. His commitment to providing opportunities for students had a lasting impact. During his tenure, approximately $6 million to $7 million in scholarships were awarded to deserving students and families. For Monsignor Houle, this work was more than financial assistance, it was an expression of faith in action. He understood that a Bishop Kenny education could shape a young person’s future through academics, faith, relationships, and a strong sense of community.

Unlike annual fundraising, an endowment is designed to provide a lasting source of support. The Monsignor Michael Houle ’71 Endowment will generate perpetual scholarship income, helping Bishop Kenny continue to assist families who otherwise may not be able to provide their children with a Crusader education. The endowment serves as a reminder of Monsignor Houle’s belief that an education rooted in faith should be accessible to those who seek it. Through the generosity of the Bishop Kenny community, his commitment to that mission will continue for generations to come.
