Congratulations to Seniors Anabel Macchi and Evan Larson, Bishop Kenny’s May Students of the Month. They were selected for Best All-Around, Perseverance and Motivation as examples of students who bring their best to BK every day. Anabel and Evan are both standout Crusader students and academic scholars who embody the values of our Catholic faith. Anabel said, “I don’t want to be the best, but I work to become the best version of myself and love to explore new things given the opportunity.” Evan had similar sentiments stating, “I am honored to be nominated for this distinctive award, and I try to approach each day with a positive attitude that gives me the mindset to persevere through any obstacles.”
Anabel has a rigorous academic schedule and is also involved in many extracurricular activities. She puts her faith into action participating in Campus Ministry as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist, being an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and serving meals at the Sulzbacher Center. Anabel was the reigning 2022-2023 Miss Bishop Kenny and Miss Senior High. She is a National Merit Commended student, an AP scholar with distinction, AP Capstone candidate, and National Hispanic Scholar. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the English, Science, Spanish, Rho Kappa, and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Societies. Anabel is a member of the BK Student Ambassadors and the History, Science, and Theatre Clubs. Anabel will be attending Vanderbilt University pursuing a double degree in Human Organizational Development and Education and Human Development. She stated, “I am thankful for my teachers at BK and their daily connection to me and interest in seeing me succeed, motivating me to become a person that positively influences others to be their best.”
Evan also has a rigorous academic schedule and is also involved in many extracurricular activities. He puts his faith into action through participation in Campus Ministry as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist. He is a recipient of the 2022 Presbyterian College Fellowship Award. Evan was a four-year member of the Varsity Swim Team and captain for his junior and senior seasons. He helped lead the team to two back-to-back state championships, setting school records in the 100 backstroke, 200 IM, and 200 IM relay. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and the English, Science, Spanish, Rho Kappa, and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Societies. Evan is a member of the BK Student Ambassadors, an AP Scholar with Honors, and a member of the History, Science, Spanish Clubs. Evan will be attending Rollins College on a swimming and academic scholarship pursuing a 3/2 accelerated business program. The program allows Evan to graduate in five years with an MBA and then pursue medical school. He stated, “BK has taught me the true meaning of what a student encompasses, preparing me to fully develop and excel in all aspects of academic and athletic life. I have learned what it means to work hard, manage my time, and make daily sacrifices in order to accomplish my goals in the classroom and pool.”
