National Signing Day: February 1, 2023

Five Bishop Kenny student athletes signed college scholarships on National Signing Day, held on Wednesday, February 1.   Extra congratulations are in order as all five students were honored as scholar athletes. We wish these student athletes success as they continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Jackson Burnett signed to play football for the United States Military Academy West Point.  Burnett is a two-sport athlete and has played football and basketball for four years at BK.  He has a strong academic schedule and is involved with numerous clubs.  Jackson stated, “I am thankful for Coach Krause guiding me through the college recruiting process and helping me stay focused on my athletics and academics so that I can play at the next level.”

Michael Leonard signed to play football for Davidson College.  Leonard is a two-sport athlete and has played football and baseball for four years.  He has a very rigorous academic schedule and is a member of the English, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, Science and National Honor Societies.  He would like to major in economics and pursue a career in business.

Evan Larson signed to swim at Rollins College.  Larson enjoys swimming in both individual and relay races and was the team captain of the back-to-back state championship teams. He set school records his junior year in the 100 backstroke, 200 IM, and 200 IM relay and another school record in the 200 IM relay and 400 Free Relays.  Larson stated, “Bishop Kenny has taught me the true meaning of what a student athlete encompasses by allowing me to fully develop and excel in all aspects of my academic and athletic life. I have learned what it means to work hard, manage my time, and make sacrifices to accomplish my goals both in the classroom and in the pool.” He has a very rigorous academic schedule and is a member of the English, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, Science and National Honor Societies.  He was accepted into the 3/2 Accelerated Management Program, allowing him to receive a bachelors and master’s degree in five years and then continuing to medical school to become a pediatrician.

Jack Newman signed to play baseball for the University of North Florida.  Newman will continue to play first base for the Ospreys and is looking forward to playing at the collegiate level. He received the Hitter of the Year award his junior year, leading the BK Baseball Team in doubles and RBI’s.  Newman lives by the mantra, “The only disability in life is a bad attitude,” and he strives to be mindful of this every day.  He would like to major in finance and pursue a career in business.

Emma Gredenhag signed to play tennis at St. Michaels College.    Gredenhag has been playing number 1 singles and doubles on the BK Tennis Team since her sophomore year.  She has a strong academic schedule and is very involved in clubs and honor societies.  Gredenhag stated, “I started taking tennis seriously in middle school.  I really love the competitiveness of the sport and enjoy playing singles and doubles and look forward to playing at the next level.”
