National Signing Day May 11, 2022

The Final Spring Signing Day, held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, was an exciting time for five Bishop Kenny High School student athletes.  The athletes signed letters of intent committing to play a sport at the collegiate level. 

Charlie Lawrence ’22 will attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy to continue his sailing career.  Lawrence has a strong academic schedule and is a member of the History, Science, and Interact Clubs and Rho Kappa Honor Society.  He is actively involved with Campus Ministry as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist.  Lawrence has been on the varsity sailing team for four years and said, “Sailing at BK was amazing for me because it fueled my love for being on the water and allowed me to participate with a group of people who have become lifelong friends.” After graduation he would like to serve in the Merchant Marines and then pursue a career in maritime law.

Tony Valentino ’22 will attend Columbia University to continue his rowing career while pursuing a degree in chemical engineering.  Valentino has a strong passion for rowing and has participated in sculling and sweeping events throughout high school with The First Coast Rowing Club.  He has a very rigorous academic schedule and is involved in both the science and history clubs.  He is a member of National Honor Society and the Spanish, English, Science, Rho Kappa, and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Societies.  Valentino shared, “I find crew so peaceful because it’s the only sport that you are completely silent but have constant communication with your teammates and you only hear that roar in your head.”

Abby Measor ’22 signed to play ladies’ soccer for Franciscan University. She was a member of the 2020 state championship team.  She is a dedicated student and involved with the Anchor, History, Spanish clubs, as well as, being a BK Ambassador, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist.  He is a member of the English, Rho Kappa, and Spanish Honor Societies.  She was also a member of the Cross-Country team and the Track & Field team being a rare three sport athlete.  Measor said, “My parents instilled my love for sports giving me a passion for running and soccer.  I am grateful to have this opportunity to continue at the next level in college.”

Marteen Pineiros ‘22 will continue his soccer career at the University of West Florida.  He has a strong academic schedule and is a member of the History and Spanish Clubs, as well as a member of the History, English, and Spanish Honor Societies.  Pineiros shared, “There is so much noise in my life and when I step on the soccer field everything goes quiet and I find peace.”  He is excited to have the opportunity to play in college and he would like to pursue a degree in Exercise Science and become an Occupational Therapist.

Luke Williams ‘22 signed to run Cross Country and Track & Field for Florida State College of Jacksonville.  He has a strong passion for running and typically runs 50 plus miles per week. He will specialize in running 8K and 10K races in college.  He has enjoyed being a four-year member of both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams while at BK.  Williams said, “I really enjoy the progression of running and feel so satisfied when I know I am improving as a runner with each race.”
