National Signing Day: November 9, 2022

National Signing Day: November 9, 2022

Five Bishop Kenny student athletes signed college scholarships on National Signing Day, held on Wednesday, November 9.   Extra congratulations are in order as all five students were honored as scholar athletes. We wish these student athletes success as they continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Ally Cavanaugh signed to play volleyball for the University of Georgia.  Cavanaugh was a tremendous presence on offense playing outside and middle hitter for BK; she currently holds the BK record for career kills with 1,240.  She was a leader on the 2020 State Championship Team and continued to garner awards throughout her high school career. Cavanaugh was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 4A Player of the Year in 2020 and named to the FACA All-State Team in 2020 and 2021.  She stated, “I don’t know what my life would look like without volleyball.  It always pushed me to do my best in a way that’s hard to describe, but I relish the intensity of competition on the court.”

Sarah Seabrooke signed to play volleyball for Rollins College.  She played multiple positions throughout her BK career but loves the libero position best and will continue as a libero at Rollins College.  Seabrooke was a member of the 2020 State Championship Team and a member of the 2022 State Final Four Beach Volleyball Team.  Seabrooke was named to the AVCA All-American watch list in 2022.  She has fond memories of BK volleyball stating, “I love volleyball because of the strong team bond and the lifelong friends that I made at Bishop Kenny.”  She would like to major in biology with a focus on zoology so that she can build a career working with animals.

Maria Candelora signed to swim at Sienna College.  Candelora enjoys swimming in both individual and relay races and is a 3-time state qualifier, placing 3rd in the 200-freestyle relay in 2021.  She was named to the FACA All-County Team the past three years and awarded team MVP in 2020.  The Girls’ Swim and Dive Team won the district and regional title this year and will be traveling to compete at the state championship level.  She stated, “I am fascinated with swimming because it’s a dedicated skill that you must learn for each race depending on the stroke and distance you are swimming.  You have to focus every time you train so that you can improve your times.”  Candelora would like to major in criminal justice in hopes of pursuing a career with the F.B.I.

Sophia Rueppell signed to play basketball for Kennesaw State.  Rueppell loves playing point guard, which is a position that she feels is perfect for her because she is a strong leader, and she likes to control the tempo of the game.  She was a member of the District and Regional Championship Team in 2022, reaching the State Final Four round.  Rueppell was named to the 2nd All-State FACA Team in 2022 and led the Crusaders in assists in 2022.  She dreams of a chance of playing basketball in the WNBA and playing overseas with the long-term goal of going to medical school to become a surgeon stating, “I thrive in chaotic situations and want to channel that into helping others.”

Garrett Corbett signed to play baseball at Jacksonville University.  Corbett has played multiple positions for the Crusader Baseball Team, but he will focus on pitching at J.U.  He was instrumental in leading BK Baseball to two District Championships in 2021 and 2022.  The Florida Times Union and New4Jax both named Corbett to the First Team All-City Squad, and he received the Pitcher of the Year Award in both his sophomore and junior year.  Corbett stated, “I love baseball at BK because my teammates make me feel like I am more than just a member of the team, but also a member of a huge family!”  Corbett will pursue a degree in finance utilizing his love for math to become a financial advisor.
