November Student of the Month: Janelle Sumbeling
Carla Chin

Congratulations to Senior Janelle Sumbeling Bishop Kenny’s November Student of the Month.  Janelle was selected for Leadership, Responsibility and Self Discipline.  Janelle has developed her own leadership style as a student at BK and makes it a priority to guide others into leadership roles.  Janelle said, “I am always open to listening and trying something new to help others which is why I love being the Student Government President (SGA) president.”

Janelle has a rigorous academic schedule and is also very involved in extra-curricular activities. She puts her faith into action through participation in Campus Ministry as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist, serving as a Kairos 12 leader, and altar serving at Blessed Trinity.  She is a two-sport athlete, running in the fall with the cross-country team and in the spring with the track & field team.  Janelle is a member of the National Honor Society and the English, Science Spanish, Rho Kappa, and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Societies.  She is the President of the SGA and Saint Vincent de Paul Society.  She is a member of the BK Ambassadors, Diversity Student Union, Spanish, Science, History, Environmental and Medical Career Clubs.

Janelle would like to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and major in neuroscience.  Inspired by her parents she said, “From an early age I grew seeing that serving others brought joy to my life and to those around me.  I want to continue that in the field of neuroscience and help others with medical challenges.”
